I am a Coupon Warrior

I am a Coupon Warrior

When I was engaged in a demanding job in Japan, I had to make a special effort to find time for shopping. After I became a “freelancer” (i.e. jobless), things changed. I used a lot of my spare time to look for sales and think about how to reduce expenses—I poured my energy into such nonproductive activities. This was how I survived in Japan where everything was so expensive.

Such a passive strategy for protecting my living has flourished here in the US where discount coupons are part of its shopping culture. I’ve become a coupon warrior who fights with help from coupons, putting aside any other things to enjoy.

The other day, by making best use of manufacturer and store coupons, I showed such shopping tactics that I impressed the cashier lady. On coming home in a triumphant mood, I showed off to my husband how good I was at housekeeping. He said right away, “Good job! Sure, your saving strategy is great. I am impressed. But, all are unnecessary things!”

As a competitive wife, I don’t pay attention to, or rather, listen to such advice. I am always ready to fight and busy preparing for my next battle.
