Our Dog’s Love and a TV Trial

Jumping over the 2-meter fence, Mr. Chief, our dog, went to see his beloved girlfriend, Miss Chelsea. He enjoyed a brief meeting with her and came home.

A few days later, we received a complaint through the court. According to the complaint, Mr. Chief had made Miss Chelsea pregnant. The owners of Miss Chelsea claimed that they would not be able to sell each puppy for $300 because Mr. Chief, the father, was half Retriever and half Labrador, whereas Miss Chelsea was a Golden Retriever with a good pedigree and blonde fur. Thus, according to them, they lost income that they had expected. Miss Chelsea would have twelve puppies. The owners were seeking $4,179 in compensation for their lost income plus damage to their home.

We thought this sort of lawsuit was common in the US where people were suing each other, but it turned out to be the other way around. On a later day, a TV station called us and wanted to handle our case on a TV trial, “People’s Court.” That’s how my husband reluctantly appeared on TV.
